Puerperal fever - Prasutika, Sutika

Symptoms
Symptoms of malarial infection are nonspecific and may manifest as a flulike illness with fever, headache, malaise, fatigue, and muscle aches. Some patients with malaria present with diarrhea and other gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms. Immune individuals may be completely asymptomatic or may present with mild anemia.


Treatment
The treatment of all types of Visama Jvara is as follows:

Single Drugs

1. Svarasa (juice) of fresh leaf of Nirgui 14 to 28 ml. is to be taken with 5 to 10 g. honey three times a day.

2. Powdered fruit of Pippali (long pepper) 1 g. is to be taken with 5 to 10 g. honey three times a day.

Simple Preparations

1. Powdered fruit of Pippali (long pepper) 1 g. ghee 1 g and Sarkara (raw sugar) 5 g. to be taken with 250 ml. warm milk and 5 g. honey, three times a day.

2. Decoction of Triphala 14 to 28 ml., to be taken wih equal quantity of milk or Gua (jaggery) three times a day.

3. Decoction of equal part of Suhi (dried ginger), roots of Pippali (long pepper) and Krsa Musali, fruit of Karkoi, fruit pulp ofAragvadha (cassia), rhizome of Balaka (valerian) and fruit rind of Haritaki (chebulic myrobalan) 14 to 28 ml. is to be taken with 1 g. Yavaksara three times a day.

4. Decoction of equal part of leaf of Paola (a variety of small cucumber snake gourd), roots of Yasimadhu (glycyrrhiza) and Mustaka (motha), rhizome of Kauki and fruit rind of Haritaki (chebulic myrobalan) 14 to 28 ml. is to be taken three times a day.

5. Decoction of equal part of Triphala, stem of Guuci and Leaf of Vasa 14 to 28 ml. is to be taken three times a day.

6. Decoction of equal part of root of Mustaka (motha), Suhi (dried ginger) and whole plant of Kaakari (yellow berried night shade) 14 to 28 ml. is to be taken with 250 mg. powdered fruit of Pippali (long pepper) and 5 g. honey three times a day.

7. Decoction of equal part of root of Sahadevi (ash coloured fleabane) and Suhi (dried ginger) 14 to 28 ml. is to be taken three times a day.

8. Decoction of equal part of stem of Guuci, bark of Nimba and fruit rind ofAmalaki (embelic myrobalan) 14 to 28 ml. is to be taken with 5 to 10 g. honey three times a day.

9. Decoction of equal part of leaf of Paola (a variety of small cucumber snake gourd), bark of Nimba, Draksa (raisin), Triphala, root of Rasna (indian groundsel) and leaf of Vasa 14 to 28 ml. is to be taken with 5 to 10 g. Sarkara (raw sugar) and 5 to 10 g. honey, three times a day.

10. Decoction of equal part of roots of Yasimadhu (glycyrrhiza) and USira (khas), wood of Rakta-Candana (red sandal), fruit rind ofAmalaki (embelic myrobalan), fruit of Dhanyaka (coriander), stem of Guuci and leaf of Paola (a variety of small cucumber or snake gourd) 14 to 28 ml. is to be taken with 5 to 10 g. honey or with 5 to 10 g. Sarkara (raw sugar) three times a day.

11. Decoction of equal part of bark of Nimba, leaf of Paola (a variety of small cucumber of snake gourd), Draksa (raisin), Triphala, fruit of Karavellaka (bitter gourd) and indrayava (kurchi seed) 14 to 28 ml. is to be taken with 5 to 10 g. honey three times a day.

12. Decoction of equal part of whole plant of Kiratatikta (chirata), stem of Guuci, wood of Rakta Chandana (red sandal), and Suhi (dried ginger) 14 to 28 ml. is to be taken three times a day.

13. Decoction of equal part of stem of Guuci, fruit rind ofAmalaki (embelic myrobalan), root of Mustaka (motha) and Draksa (raisin) 14 to 28 ml. is to be taken three times a day.

14. Decoction of equal part of root of Vasa, fruit rinds ofAmalaki (embelic myrobalan) and Haritaki (chebulic myrobalan), whole plant of Salapari wood of Devadaru (deodar) and Suhi (dried ginger) 14 to 28 ml. is to be taken with 5 to 10 g. Sarkara (raw sugar) and 5 to 10 g. honey three times a day.

15. Decoction of equal part of root of USira (khas) and Mustaka (motha), wood of Rakta Gandana (red sandal), stem of Guuci and fruit of Dhanyaka (coriander) 14 to 28 ml. is to be taken three times a day.

16. SudarSana Cura 1 to 2 g. is to be taken with honey three times a day. it may also be taken in decoction form in 14 to 28 ml. dose mixing with Sarkara (raw sugar), two times a day.

Compound Preparations

1. Saptapara Ghana Vai: 2 to 4 Vai, to be taken with 50 to 100 ml. water three times a day.

2. Maha-JvarankuSa Rasa: 60 to 120 mg., to be taken with honey to make a paste three times a day.

3. Krsa-Caturmukha Rasa: 60 to 120 mg., to be taken with honey to make a paste three times a day.

4. Candanadi Lauha: 250 to 500 mg., to be taken with honey to make a paste three times a day.

5. Visama-Jvarantaka Lauha: 120 to 250 mg., to be taken with honey to make a paste three times a day.

6. Sarva-Jvara-Hara Lauha: 1 to 2 Vai, to be taken with honey to make a paste three times a day.

External Applications

1. Prepare Nasya from Svarasa (juice) of flower of Sirisa 7 ml., powdered rhizome of Haridra (turmeric) 3 g., powdered bark of Daruharidra (barberry) 3 g. and ghee 5 to 10 g. its 2 to 4 drops are to be instilled in the nose twice a day.
