Slow cumulative poisoning -

Symptoms
Sudden onset of high fever with shivering, loss of appetite, bodyache, restlessness, giddiness, gray coloured face, and redness of the eyes are the initial symptoms. After 2 days temperature falls and on the third day Masura (lentil) like eruptions first appear on the forehead and front of the wrist followed by eruptions on the whole body, but least on the chest, abdomen, groins and legs. Each vesicle enlarges and by the seventh or eighth day it becomes pustular. in the second week secondary suppurative fever may occur. in third week, the lesions begin to dry and after which the scabs are shedded.


Treatment
in Masurika (small pox) if infection of the eyes, throat and lungs occurs, then a specialist should immediately be consulted.

Single Drugs

1. Leaf juice of Tulasi (sacred basil) 7 to 14 ml. to be taken with 5 to 10 g. honey thrice a day.

2. Leaf juice of Karavellaka (bitter gourd) 7 to 14 ml. to be taken with powdered rhizome of Haridra (turmeric) 1 g., thrice a day.

3. Rudraksa Kalka (paste) made in water to be taken in 1 to 2 g. dose twice or thrice a day.

4. Powdered leaf of Haridra (turmeric) 3 to 6 g. to be taken with 100 to 250 ml. cold water thrice a day.

5. Powdered leaf of Cica (tamarind) 3 to 6 g. to be taken with 100 to 250 ml. cold water thrice a day.

6. Powdered seed of Kadali (plantain) 1 to 2 g. to be taken with 100 to 250 ml. water three times a day.

Simple Preparations

1. Decoction of Nagabala and root of Yasimadhu (glycyrrhiza) to be used for Pariseka (fomentation) of eyes.

2. Kajjali of Suddha Parada (mercury) 1 part and Suddha Gandhaka (sulphur) 2 parts to be taken in 60 to 120 mg. dose with leaf juice of Tambula (betel) twice a day.

Compound Preparations

1. Amrtadi Kvatha: 14 to 28 ml. to be taken thrice a day.

2. Khadirasaka Kvatha: 14 to 28 ml. to be taken thrice a day.

3. Nimbadi Kvatha: 14 to 28 ml. to be taken thrice a day.

4. Paoladi Kvatha: 14 to 28 ml. to be taken thrice a day.

5. Triphala Cura: 3 to 6 g. and Suddha Guggulu 3 to 6 g. to be taken thrice a day.

General Measures

1. Wash patients mouth and hands with the decoction of wood of Khadira (khair) or with the decoction of wood of Bijaka (indian kino tree).

2. Tie leaves of Nimba at place to place in the room occupied by the patient. Keep him segregated in an airy room, ensure the cleanliness of the room and burn Dhupa of wood of Sarala.

3. Restrict dispersal of scabs.

Pathya

it is better to keep the patient on milk or liquid diet. Godhuma (wheat), Mudga (phaseolus bean), Masura (lentil), Tuvari (pigeon pea); fruits of Karavellaka (bitter gourd fruit), Paola (a variety of small cucumber-snake gourd), Daima (pomegranate), Draksa (raisin or grape fruit) andAmalaki (embelic myrobalan) may also be given taking in view the stage of the disease.

Apathya

Guru Anna, wine, Kulattha (dolichos bean), Masa (black phaseolus bean) and Tila (sesame) are harmful for the patient of Masurika. Exposure to heat, sun and cold wind, sitting up at night and walking should be avoided.
