Conjunctivitis - ankhaAna

Symptoms
Kukuaka is a disease of the eye lids of children which particularly occurs at the age of breast feeding. in this disease the eye lids of the patient are swollen, red and full of discharge and itching. The child constantly rubs his forehead, eyes and nose and is unable to see the sunlight.


Treatment
1. Foment the eyes of the patient with decoction of fruit rind ofAmalaki (embelic myrobalan), fruit of Lakuca (a kind of bread fruit) and leaf of Jambu (jamun).

Simple Preparations

1. Decoction of equal part of fruit rind of Haritaki (chebulic myrobalan), Draksa (raisin) and fruit of Pippali (long pepper) 7 to 14 ml. is to be taken twice a day by the feeding mother.

2. Decoction of equal part of fruit of Paola (a variety of small cucumber-snake gourd), root of Mustaka (motha), Draksa (raisin), stem of Guuci and Triphala 7 to 14 ml. is to be taken twice a day by the feeding mother.

External Applications

1. Lepa (plaster) of root of Mustaka (motha), rhizome of Haridra (turmeric), bark of Daruharidra (barberry) and fruit of Pippali (long pepper) in water to be applied on the breast of feeding mother.
