Plague - Tauna, Mahamari, Plega

Symptoms
Difficult and painful breathing, cough with excessive phlegmatic discharge, low grade fever, weakness, pain in the sides, discomfort in lying position and slight relief in sitting are the main signs and symptoms of Urastoya.


Treatment
Give boiled water (reduced to one fourth) whenever required.

Single Drugs

1. Svarasa obtained from the root of Punarnava (pigweed) 14 to 28 ml. is to be taken twice a day.

Simple Preparations

1. Powder of Triphala (fruit rind of three myrobalans) 1 g. and Silajatu 1 g. to be taken with 7 to 14 ml. of cows urine twice a day.

2. Prepare fine powder from the equal part of bark of Arjuna, root of Yasimadhu (glycyrrhiza) and Kusha (koot). its 3 to 6 g. is to be taken with 100 to 200 ml. milk twice a day.

Compound Preparations

1. Punarnavasaka Kvatha: 14 to 28 ml. is to be taken twice a day.

2. Srnga Bhasma: 250 to 500 mg. is to be taken with 4 to 6 g. honey twice a day.

The treatment advised for Rajayaksma should also be given to the patient of Urastoya. in case of excessive accumulation of fluid, hospitalize the patient for removing the fluid.

Pathya

Godhuma (wheat), Mudga (phaseolus bean), Sali variety of rice, goats milk, cows milk, fruits of Karavellaka (bitter gourd) and Paola (a variety of small cucumber) and leaves of Vastuka (a variety of chenopodium) and Sigru (horse radish) are the useful articles of diet for the patient of Urastoya.

Apathya

Guru Dravya, curd, fish, cold drinks and incompatible items of food in diet should be avoided.
