Symptoms
The signs and symptoms of common types of Svasa Roga viz. Ksudra Svasa and Tamaka Svasa are as follows.

Ksudra Svasa (Chronic Bronchitis): This is a mild type of Svasa Roga and its main symptom is dyspnoea on exertion.

Tamaka Svasa (Bronchial Asthma): This disease come in the paroxysm of dyspnoea and during the attack, the patient goes in extreme agony, perceives darkness, feels thirst and becomes motionless. On account of frequent coughing, the patient faints and remains in extreme distress till phlegm is coughed out. On account of breathing difficulty in lying down position, the patient is unable to sleep. He gets some relief in sitting position. The disease is flared by clouds, cold water, cold wind, cold weather, and the diet which increases Kapha.


Treatment
Practice Praayama, keep bowel clean by taking laxatives, take light diet in the night and use only warm water for drinking.

Single Drugs

1. Svarasa (juice) of whole plant of Kaakari (yellow berried night shade)-7 to 14 ml. as such, or with Trikau-1 g. twice a day.

2. Svarasa (Juice) of Suvarcala-7 to 14 ml. to be taken with ghee or honey or Trikau-1 g. twice a day.

3. Powder of Soma-1 to 2 g. to be taken 4 to 6 g. honey thrice a day.

4. Vibhitaka Majja Cura-3 to 6 g. to be taken with 4 to 6 g. honey twice a day.

5. Sarsapa Taila (mustard oil)-12 g. in Gua (jaggery)-12 g. to be taken twice a day.

6. Powdered Suhi (dried ginger)-4 to 6 g. to be taken thrice a day.

7. Powdered of whole plant of Kaakari-1 to 3 g. mixed with 4 to 6 g. honey to be licked 2 to 3 times a day.

Simple Preparations

1. Decoction of equal part of root of Vasa (vasaka), rhizome of Haridra (turmeric), stem of Guuci, fruit of Kaakari (yellow berried night shade)-14 to 28 ml. to be taken with 1 g. to powdered Marica (black pepper) twice a day.

2. Dhumrapana (smoking) of leaf of Dhattura (datura).

Compound Preparations

1. Eladi Cura: 1 to 3 g. to be taken with 4 to 6 g. honey twice a day.

2. Sitopaladi Cura: 1 to 3 g. to be taken with 4 to 6 g. honey twice a day.

3. Srngyadi Cura: 1 to 3 g. to be taken with 4 to 6 g. honey twice a day.

4. Talisadi Cura: 1 to 3 g. to be taken with 4 to 6 g. honey twice a day.

5. DaSamula Kvatha: 14 to 28 ml. to be taken twice a day.

6. Kaakaryadi Kvatha: 14 to 28 ml. to be taken twice a day.

7. Srngyadi Kvatha: 14 to 28 ml. to be taken twice a day.

8. Vasadi Kvatha: 14 to 28 ml. to be taken twice a day.

9. Bhogottara Guika: 500 mg. to 1 g. to be taken with 0.5 g. powdered fruit of Pippali (long pepper) twice a day.

10. Khadiradi Vai: 2 to 4 Vai to be taken thrice a day.

11. Lavangadi Vai: 1 Vai to be chewed six times a day.

12. Soma Yoga: 120 to 500 mg. to be taken with 4 to 6 g. honey twice a day.

13. Karviradi Yoga: 30 to 250 mg. to be taken with honey to make a paste twice a day.

14. Candramrta Rasa: 120 to 250 mg. to be taken with 4 to 6 g. honey twice a day.

15. Abhraka Bhasma (plain): 120 to 250 mg. to be taken with honey to make a paste twice a day.

16. Mayurapuccha Bhasma: 1 to 2 g. to be taken with honey to make a paste twice a day.

17. Apamarga Ksara: 1 g. to be taken with warm water twice a day.

18. Arka Lavaa: 1 g. to be taken with warm water twice a day.

19. Bharangi Gua: 12 to 24 g. to be taken with warm water twice a day.

20. Agastya Haritaki Avaleha: 12 to 24 g. to be taken twice a day.

21. CyavanpraSavaleha: 12 to 24 g. to be taken twice a day.

22. Citraka Haritaki Avaleha: 12 to 24 g. to be taken twice a day.

23. Vasavaleha: 12 to 24 g. to be taken twice a day.

24. Vyaghriharitaki Avaleha: 12 to 24 g. to be taken twice a day.

25. Draksarisa: 14 to 28 ml. to be taken with equal quantity of water twice a day after meal.

26. Vasarisa: 14 to 28 ml. to be taken with equal quantity of water twice a day after meal.

27. Kanakasava: 5 to 10 ml. to be taken with equal quantity of water after meal. This medicine is to be used cautiously on account of its strong ingredients.

External Applications

1. Lepa (plaster) of Saindhava (rock-salt) in old ghee, to be applied on the chest.

2. Saindhavadi Taila for massage on the chest.

3. Saindhava (rock-salt) mixed in Sarsapa Taila (mustard oil)-25 ml. for light massage over chest.

Pathya

Old Sali variety of rice, Kulattha (dolichos bean), Godhuma (wheat), Yava (barley), leaf of Vastuka (a variety of chenopodium), Tauliyaka (a variety of amaranth), fruit of Paola (a variety of small cucumber-snake gourd)), root of Rasna (indian groundsel), Draksa (raisin or grape fruit), ghee and goats milk are the useful articles of diet for the patients of Svasa Roga.

Apathya

Guru, Sita and Ruksa Anna; Visambhi, Vidahi, and Abhisyandi Dravya, Masa (black phaseolus bean), Sarsapa Saka (mustard leaf), food prepared in oil, curd, Matsya (fish) are harmful for the patient of Svasa Roga. Suppression of natural urges like urination, thirst, eructation and cough; smoking moving in the sun should be avoided.
