Enteric fever - Miyadi Bukhara

Symptoms
it comes in paroxysm; patient see imaginary things and falls down; eyes and eye brows become distorted; foaming from the mouth; tremors; hand and feet become convulsed; paroxysm lasts for a brief period and patient regains his consciousness as he is awaking from sleep.


Treatment
A. At the time of attack

Sprinkle the cold water and remove the patient to an airy place. Any one of the following preparation may also be used locally.

1. 5 to 10 drops of juice of bulb of Palau (onion), to be instilled in the nose as Nasya.

2. 5 to 10 drops of juice of root of Nirgui (five leaved chaste tree), to be instilled in the nose in the form of Nasya.

3. Give a Nasya (snuff) prepared from extra fine powder of seed of Marica (black pepper), Sigru (horse-radish) and Damanaka, twice a day.

4. Give Dhumra (smoke) or root of Vaca (sweet-flag) and fruit of Marica (balck pepper) to nose.

5. Prepare an Ajana from the equal parts of the powder of roots of Madhuyasi (glycyrrhiza) and Vaca (sweet flag), rhizome of Tagara (valerian), bark of Sirisa (a variety of acacia) and bulb of Rasona (garlic), it may be used as Ajana and Nasya.

6. Boil Sarsapa Taila (mustard oil) in 4 times goats urine and prepare Taila by Taila Paka method. Whole body of the patient is to be massaged with it.

B. Between the attacks

The following preparations are useful for preventing the attacks of Apasmara.

Single Drugs

1. Svarasa (fresh juice) of whole plant of Brahmi (indian pannywort) is to be taken in 14 to 28 ml. dose with 4 to 6 g. honey twice a day.

2. Powdered root of Satavari (wild asparagus) is to be taken in 12 g. dose with 100 to 250 ml. milk twice a day.

3. Powdered rhizome of Vaca (sweet flag) is to be taken in 1 g. dose with 4 to 6 g. honey twice a day.

4. Bulb of Rasona (garlic) is to be taken in 1 g. dose with 5 ml. Tila Taila (gingelly oil) twice a day.

5. Powdered root of Madhuyasi (glycyrrhiza) is to be taken in 3 to 6. g dose with 7 to 14 ml. Svarasa (freshjuice) of fruit of Kusmaa (a variety of pumpkin gourd-ash gourd), twice a day for three days.

Simple Preparations

1. Take the powder of Hingu (asafoetida), fruit of Amlavetasa, Suhi (dried ginger), Souvarcala Lavaa (a salt) and seed of Daima (pomegranate) in equal parts. its 3 to 6 g. is to be taken with 14 to 28 ml. decoction of Yava (barley) twice a day.

2. Prepare a Siddha Ghrta with Souvarcala Lavaa (a salt), fruit rind of Haritaki (chebulic myrobalan) and Trikau. its 12 to 24 g. is to be taken twice a day.

Compound Preparations

1. Sarasvata Cura:1 to 3 g., to be taken with 50 ml. water twice a day.

2. DaSamula Kvatha: 14 to 28 ml., to be taken twice a day.

3. Jaamansyadi Kvatha: 14 to 28 ml., to be taken with 4 to 6 g. honey twice a day.

4. Vaca Brahmi Yoga: 0-5 to 1 g., to be taken with 4 to 6 g. honey twice a day (with caution).

5. Brahmi Vai: 1 to 2 Vai, to be taken with 50 ml. water twice a day.

6. Svalpa Paca Gavya Ghrta: 3 to 6 g., to be taken twice a day.

7. Brahmi Ghrta: 12 to 24 g., to be taken with 50 ml. warm water twice a day.

8. ASvagandharisa: 14 to 28 ml., to be taken with equal quantity of water, twice a day after meal.

9. DaSamularisa: 14 to 28 ml., to taken with equal quantity of water, twice a day after meal.

10. Sarasvatarisa: 14 to 28 ml., to be taken with equal quantity of water, twice a day after meal.

Pathya

Godhuma (wheat), Mudga (phaseolus bean), Sali variety of rice; milk, ghee; Leaves of Brahmi (indian pennywort), Paola (a small variety of cucumber), Tauliyaka (a variety of amaranth) and Vastuka (a variety of chenopodium); Draksa (dried grape fruit) are the useful articles of diet for the patient of Apasmara.

Apathya

Wine, hot food, incompatible food; suppression of urges like hunger, thirst and sleep and living in insanitary places should be restricted. Patient should be saved from the sources of water like well, pond etc and fire.
